for my family, as usual, we visit our relatives' house on the first day then my mammy will be at my auntie's place mahjonging. this year, only my mammy and i went visting. brother went to indonesia for holidays. went to four relatives' place this year. red packets wise, not a lot this year. but honestly, i think it is the thought that counts. as we grow older, i guess ang bao is not our primary concern. we do not get as excited as children upon receiving red packets.
as an annual gathering, visit to relatives' place is utmost important though honestly, i am personally not very close to them. but we have a bond, same blood flowing. and that is what matters. it should be a joyous event but somehow, family problems are always revealed. 家家有本难念的经. that is the only thing i can say. therefore, 'happy new year' wishes are not greeted for nothing. 'HAPPY new year'. truly, happy.
to me, the chinese new year atmosphere is sort of not that strong. but i still appreciate this festive season where we gather and catch up with our relatives and friends, when we eat new year goodies, when we dress ourselves, when we can have some rest off our busy work schedule, when we watch cny movies, when we have good reason for having feast, when we exchange new year greetings, when we look forward to a brand new year. well, i love chinese new year~!
